How to evaluate Lili

A source-backed overview of the product, its workflow, tradeoffs, and the checks to make before paying or signing up.

What Lili offers

Lili is a financial technology platform for small businesses. It combines checking and savings with debit cards, ACH transfers, domestic and international wires, cash deposits, team access, invoices, expense management, tax reserves, bookkeeping reports, and optional credit-related products. Banking services are provided by Sunrise Banks, N.A., Member FDIC; some additional services use other partners.

The product is organized into four plans. Core covers the main banking functions without a monthly plan fee. Pro adds tax and expense workflows. Smart adds broader accounting, invoices, bills, imports, and reports. Premium adds higher-touch support and a metal card. Those layers make Lili flexible, but they also mean that “Lili” is not one fixed feature set.

Current plans and prices

Core costs $0. Pro costs $15 monthly or $144 annually. Smart costs $35 monthly or $336 annually, and Premium costs $55 monthly or $528 annually. Annual billing reduces the effective monthly cost, but it also commits the business for longer. Lili’s refund and downgrade rules should be read before selecting it.

Pro is the first tier aimed at tax organization, with automatic tax savings, receipt capture, expense categorization, and income-and-expense insights. Smart is the more meaningful accounting tier: it adds reports, invoices, bill management, external transaction imports, and supported tax-form workflows. Premium bundles Smart’s functionality with priority service, a dedicated account specialist, and a metal card.

The best plan is the lowest one that replaces a real paid tool or recurring task. A consultant may get enough value from Pro’s tax workflow, while a small team that invoices and reconciles several accounts may justify Smart. Premium is difficult to justify from card material or support expectations alone.

Savings APY and balance tiers

Lili’s current business-banking disclosure, effective January 13, 2026, lists 2.25% APY on savings balances through $500,000 and 4.00% APY on the portion above $500,000 through $1 million. The portion above $1 million earns no interest under that disclosure. Rates are variable, and money must be in the savings account rather than checking.

The 4.00% tier is marginal. If a business keeps $600,000 in savings, the first $500,000 receives the lower rate and only $100,000 receives the higher rate. The entire balance does not jump to 4.00%. A large depositor should calculate the blended yield and compare it with the business’s liquidity needs and insurance placement.

Some older Lili help pages contain previous rates or eligibility descriptions. DollarScout uses the dated current product disclosure and tells readers to verify the rate displayed during enrollment and inside their account. A product page, help-center article, and account agreement can represent different publication periods.

Deposit insurance and partner boundaries

Lili is not itself a bank. Eligible deposits use Sunrise Banks and a sweep network of participating banks. Lili advertises up to $3 million in FDIC coverage, subject to pass-through requirements, program-bank placement, ownership category, and any other deposits the customer already holds at the same banks.

The familiar $250,000 limit applies per depositor, per insured bank, per ownership category. The higher headline depends on distributing funds across banks; it is not an unconditional guarantee on every Lili balance. Businesses approaching standard limits should inspect the current program-bank list and their placement records.

Domestic and international wire services can involve Column Bank. The optional BusinessBuild card involves separate providers and eligibility. Each partner’s agreement determines fees, insurance treatment, dispute handling, and availability. FDIC insurance protects eligible deposits if an insured bank fails; it does not insure software performance, fraud outside applicable protections, or a credit product.

Payments, cash, and accounting

Core’s $0 plan fee does not make every transaction free. Lili lists a $15 outgoing domestic wire, $15 incoming international wire, and $25 outgoing international wire, plus a possible 1% currency-conversion commission. Cash deposits use participating retail locations and may cost up to $4.95 per transaction. Those channels work for occasional needs rather than a high-volume cash operation.

Lili’s paid bookkeeping tools can categorize transactions, store receipts, generate reports, and automate a tax reserve. Smart and Premium broaden the workflow with external account imports, invoices, bills, profit-and-loss and cash-flow reports, and supported tax outputs. These are administrative aids, not a substitute for professional tax or accounting judgment.

Reconciliation remains essential. Transfers, owner contributions, loan principal, reimbursements, and unusual expenses can be misclassified. External statements and source documents remain the controlling evidence. A business with inventory, accrual accounting, payroll complexity, depreciation, or multiple legal entities may still need a dedicated ledger.

Teams, eligibility, and support

Lili supports team members and role-based permissions for operators, partners, and accountants. Access should follow least privilege: accountants may need records without payment rights, employees may need limited cards, and large transfers may deserve a second approver. Permissions should be reviewed whenever responsibilities change.

The digital application supports several U.S. business types and certain international founders operating a registered U.S. entity. Approval, limits, cards, wires, and add-ons remain subject to identity, ownership, residency, industry, and risk review. International founders should confirm the exact functions available to their entity before moving operating cash.

Lili advertises live assistance seven days per week and around-the-clock support, with priority treatment and an account specialist on Premium. Published availability is not the same as a guaranteed resolution time. Keep transfer references, statements, correspondence, and the name of the provider involved in any escalated case.

Where Lili appears on DollarScout

DollarScout’s full Lili review scores fees, savings yield, integrations, onboarding, and customer service under the business-banking methodology. Comparisons position Lili against Found’s sole-proprietor tax workflow, Relay’s account and approval structure, Bluevine’s interest-bearing checking, Novo’s integration-led experience, and Mercury’s startup-focused operations.

Those products solve different problems. A free account, a high savings tier, detailed tax tools, many sub-accounts, and international wires should not be collapsed into one “best bank” label. DollarScout’s rankings and comparisons use the same dated facts but preserve the use-case distinction.

Decision checklist

Lili is a strong candidate when:

  • Core covers banking today and the business wants a clear path to add tax or accounting tools.
  • Savings yield matters and the owner understands how the marginal balance tiers work.
  • Invoices, reports, imports, team roles, and wires can replace fragmented workflows.
  • Cash deposits are occasional rather than central to daily sales.
  • Partner-bank terms and deposit placement have been reviewed.

It is easier to skip when the business wants one simple plan, branch service, full accounting, heavy cash handling, or an international feature that has not been confirmed for its entity.

Editorial conclusion

Lili is a capable modular platform. Core makes the banking foundation accessible, Pro addresses tax organization, and Smart is the strongest step for owners who want accounting and invoicing inside the same system. Current savings rates can be attractive, particularly for eligible larger balances.

Its main tradeoff is complexity. Four plans, separate transaction fees, variable APY tiers, optional add-ons, and several service partners require more diligence than the streamlined interface suggests. Start at the lowest useful tier, test one full statement cycle, verify the current rate and permissions, and upgrade only when a feature produces measurable savings or control.
