How to evaluate Found

A source-backed overview of the product, its workflow, tradeoffs, and the checks to make before paying or signing up.

What Found is

Found is a business-finance platform combining checking through Lead Bank, bookkeeping, invoices, contractor management, tax estimates, reports, cards, and sub-accounts called Pockets. It is built primarily for self-employed people and small businesses that want income, spending, records, and quarterly-tax planning in one system.

Found is not a bank or a tax preparer. Its software can organize and estimate from the activity supplied by the user. Complete books and tax decisions still depend on accurate categories, outside transactions, entity treatment, and professional review where needed.

Current plans

The core Found plan costs $0 monthly. It includes business checking, debit cards, team cards, up to ten Pockets, ACH, invoices, categorization, receipts, core reports, contractor tools, and tax estimates for eligible users.

Found Plus costs $35 per month or $315 per year and includes a 30-day trial for eligible first-time paid-plan users. It adds 1.50% APY on balances up to $20,000, external transaction imports, unlimited rules and custom categories, additional bookkeeping features, tax-payment tools, and priority phone support.

Found Pro costs $80 monthly or $720 annually. It lists 2.50% APY on all balances with no stated cap, eligible debit-card cash back, a dedicated account manager, a metal card after trial and billing requirements, free mailed checks, and discounted wires.

APY alone does not automatically justify the subscriptions. At a constant $20,000, Plus’s listed yield produces about $300 annually before tax, slightly below its $315 annual fee. The value case needs bookkeeping, support, tax, or workflow benefits.

Bookkeeping and tax workflow

Found categorizes transactions, attaches receipts, identifies potential deductions, supports rules and tags, and produces reports. Plus and Pro can continuously import activity from outside accounts. The user must reconcile balances, review transfers and owner contributions, and correct categorization before relying on the output.

For eligible sole proprietors and single-member LLCs, Found estimates federal income and self-employment taxes using the tax profile and recorded business activity. The Taxes Pocket can automatically reserve a smart or fixed percentage of incoming revenue. Paid users can submit eligible federal quarterly estimated payments during the published window; state payments use another channel.

The estimate does not cover every entity or obligation. S corporations, payroll, sales tax, multi-state filings, inventory, and accrual accounting can require separate systems. Found advises consulting a tax professional.

Pockets, invoices, and contractors

Every account starts with Primary and Taxes Pockets and can add up to eight more. Deposit allocations can split revenue among taxes, owner pay, payroll, projects, operating expenses, or reserves. Pockets improve visibility but remain inside the same account relationship and do not multiply FDIC insurance.

Found includes customizable invoices and supports client payments. Contractor tools can collect W-9 details, organize payments, and prepare 1099-related records. The business remains responsible for worker classification, payment terms, processing fees, and filing deadlines.

Accountant access gives a professional limited permission to review and edit activity, import and export data, and download reports without allowing money movement or credential changes. That is safer and more useful than sharing the owner login.

Cash, cards, and protection

Cash deposits are available at participating retail locations through an app barcode. The first deposit each month is free; later deposits cost $2. Current rolling limits are $2,000 per seven days and $4,000 per 30 days. This fits occasional cash, not a high-volume retail operation.

Found provides physical and virtual Mastercard business debit cards and team cards with controls. Permissions, limits, receipt collection, and prompt offboarding should still be documented outside the card interface.

Found says eligible funds are FDIC-insured through Lead Bank up to $250,000 per depositor for each ownership category. The coverage applies to insured-bank failure, not tax errors, card disputes, or software downtime.

Where Found appears on DollarScout

The full Found review evaluates fees, yield, integrations, onboarding, support, tax boundaries, and account protection. Comparisons place its integrated administration against Lili’s plan ladder, Relay’s team and account structure, Bluevine’s checking yield, and Novo’s ecommerce integrations.

Use rankings by job. Found can rank strongly for freelancers or integrated tax planning without being the highest-yield account or best cash solution. A comparison is more useful after the shortlist has two realistic workflows.

Decision checklist

Found is a strong candidate when:

  • Business and personal activity are kept separate.
  • The owner will capture and reconcile all relevant transactions.
  • Pockets, invoices, contractors, and tax reserves replace manual work.
  • A paid plan is justified by features beyond interest.
  • Cash deposits stay within the retail limits.

It is easier to skip when branch service, complex accounting, high cash volume, multi-entity reporting, or tax preparation is the primary need.

Editorial conclusion

Found’s free plan is unusually capable. It can turn one stream of business activity into organized Pockets, invoices, records, reports, contractor documentation, and estimated-tax reserves without a required subscription. Plus and Pro extend that workflow and add yield and support.

The main risk is incomplete data masquerading as complete administration. Test one full month, reconcile it to bank and card records, review the tax profile, and have an accountant confirm the outputs relevant to the business. Found is valuable when it reduces real work while preserving that review discipline.
